My Biography
- Soprano -
Born in Latvia the soprano Silga Tiruma began her musical education attending the School of Music of Valka at the age of seven. She showed great promise by winning First prize in three singing competitions for children in Latvia.
After receiving her diploma in Choral Conducting at the College of Music in Cesis she continued her training in Vocal Performance at the Academy of Music J. Vitols in Riga, where she was selected to participate in the Opera Studio to interpret the roles of Adinain “The Elixir of Love” by G. Donizetti,
Gretelin "Hänsel and Gretel" by E. Humperdinck and Fannyin G. Rossini’s "La Cambiale di matrimonio" at the Riga Opera.
Shortly afterwards Silga Tiruma was accepted to the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz (Austria), where she won the Archduke Johann Scholarship and completed her Masters diploma in Singing with honors in 2008.
In 2006 she was awarded the Prize for "Best Interpretation" in the Riccardo Zandonai International Singing Competition in Riva del Garda in Italy and received a Scholarship for Master classes of Veriano Luchetti and Miet Sighele.
While in Vienna she was given praises and encouragement from Christa Ludwig.
Silga Tiruma expanded her operatic experience singing Franziskain a World Premiere of "Franz Jägerstätter" by Viktor Fortin in Graz, Anna-Elisain F. Lehar’s Paganini in Leoben, Rosalind in "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss in Riga, Papagena in the Mozart’s "The Magic Flute" and Evain Wagner’s "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg"under the direction of Maestro Gustav Kuhn at the Tyrolean Festival Erl in Austria.
Meanwhile she gave much acclaimed recital concerts across Europe, along them a concert with the Vienna Philharmonicat the castle of Hainfeld (Austria), Opera Gala in Sigulda (Latvia), a concert with the pianist Ieva Oša at the concert hall "Baltais fligelis" and concerts of Viennese operetta at the Gloriana Festival (France).
Since 2010 Silga Tiruma is guest singer of the Latvia’s National Opera where she sang Donna Elvirain W.A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni and received great success.
In 2011 she was invited by the Director Aleksandrs Viļumanis to sing the female lead role Lelde in the opera "I played, I danced" by Imants Kalniņš" for Latvia’s National Opera’s 2011-2012 opening season, which was broadcasted on the Classic Radio in Latvia and received "the best career’s début" award from the same Radio. She won also the Public Award at the Latvian Music Award 2011.
Critics from a magazine "Muzika saule": “Silga Tiruma, with her wonderful voice and a strong stage presence full of charm, thrilled the audience!”
She won again a great success with the public, the media and Latvian critics in February 2014 interpreting the title role of Viennese operetta "Clivia" by Nico Dostal at the Culture’s castle "Ziemelblazma"in Riga.
In 2017 she sang successfully « La voix du ciel » in Don Carlos by G. Verdi at the National Opera of Paris alongside Jonas Kaufmann, Elīna Garanča, Sonia Yoncheva and Ludovic Tézier et received very good reviews :
